Why does The Sticky Handshake focus on small businesses?
- Small businesses don’t have the budgets that large companies have, so when we deal with other small businesses, we know what our pricing has to be.
- We like working with each other.
- We generally like to work with other small businesses who are local.
- We don’t have large offices.
- We like to meet in cafés.
- We work all hours.
- And, most importantly, we don’t have large advertising budgets.
The Sticky Handshake’s objective is to help small businesses overcome their challenges of size, by working collaboratively.
Is my business too large for The Sticky Handshake?
In Australia and New Zealand a small business is defined as an enterprise with fewer than 20 employees.
Why did you choose the name The Sticky Handshake?
We were looking for a name that was a bit different – one that highlighted the focus on making real connections, not just virtual ones. Hence the idea of a handshake. But not just any handshake. We wanted meaningful, lasting handshakes. We wanted handshakes that were “sticky”.
What are the Badges next to members names?
A Sticky Superstar Badge
You will be given one badge when you bring 10 new members to sticky. Obviously you can earn more than one badge! For those who love networking, this is your challenge.
And, remember, this helps to build your handshakes and accolades as well.
Can I belong to more than one business category?
Yes you can. The maximum is currently six but we can easily add more if needed.
Do I have to have a video?
No, this is totally optional.
Can I leave The Sticky Handshake at any time?
Yes, but we hope you won’t.
What is a “Sticky Accolade”?
A Sticky Accolade is positive feedback from members who have enjoyed using your products or services.
We moderate all Sticky Accolades. If you don’t feel you received great service, then just don’t leave an Accolade. We don’t publish negative comments; there are enough of those floating around the web already.
What is a “Sticky Handshake”?
We ask members to give a Sticky Handshake to other members they have physically met. This builds our real connections. We are real people.
Sticky Handshakes are also moderated. We confirm with the other member that you did meet.
Can I give you ideas or feedback about The Sticky Handshake?
Yes, please! We are building a community of small businesses, and we aren’t clever enough to know everything, though sometimes we think we are. Just contact us and tell us your ideas. If it’s a great idea we will reward you somehow.
What do you have in mind for the future?
Lots of exciting things! We have a long list we are working through – we just love doing this. As our community grows, we’ll be giving you the opportunity to vote on what you’d like us to work on next.
Are you going to extend outside Australia and New Zealand?
Yes, definitely. Just watch us.
While global domination would be nice, we are committed to being an Australasian based company, with our teams based on the Sunshine Coast in Australia and in Auckland New Zealand.
